On 1967 June 12th the Supreme Court of the United States of America handed down a ruling the the case of Loving v. Virginia stating:
Marriage is one of the "basic civil rights of man," fundamental to our very existence and survival.... To deny this fundamental freedom on so unsupportable a basis as the racial classifications embodied in these statutes, classifications so directly subversive of the principle of equality at the heart of the Fourteenth Amendment, is surely to deprive all the State's citizens of liberty without due process of law.
Forty years later Mildred Loving is a widow in her late 60s. And one might forgive her if she had slightly backwards views for all that she was an unintentional trailblazer back in the 1960s.

For the 40th anniversary of the decision she issued a statement about it and marriage. I was brought to tears by this statement.
