Now for Saturday excluding the party report which I shall get done later. Also annother appeal to everyone who reads my journal to sugest something for me to do tonight which I could not do on a night when I would be working the next day. I want an excuse not to do too much cleaning tonight.

I just gave up on my cleaning on Saturday you see. I was busily running about trying to get things banged into shape for when Martin ([livejournal.com profile] heck1701), Paul ([livejournal.com profile] pauldomes), and who knows who else were going to come over and watch Gormenghast. As the time ticked down I concluded I would not be able to get the place presentable so I would just ambush anyone who came over before they arrived inside and we could do something else. As it turned out only Martin showed up and I dragged him off to a bead store for no good reason.

There I blew most of my clothing budget for the next two months. Maybe I'll actually try to sell some of the necklaces that I've made. I'm not actually broke, but I don't have enough money to meet some of the fluffier obligations. Or in other words I'm not saving enough money for Worldcon in Scotland. I may have enough for more short-term things if I get help with the room party at MileHiCon.

So after buying stuff I could afford but really should not have bought we returned to my apartment for lunch. Martin watched me string beads, we had good sandwiches, and it was a very enjoyable afternoon. Then I started in on calling people to come to the DASFA Alternate and Martin got bored and went home.

I did mangae to restring all the neclaces I broke over the last few months and I made a nifty new one out of onyx, quartz, and labradorite.

Lioness [livejournal.com profile] elisem asks, "If you had a memento miniature of a place that shaped you, what would it be?"

Well this is a cool thought. Somewhere personal to me done in excessive detail and sealed inside a water filled globe. The difficulty is that it wouldn't really show why this place was important to me. My life is mostly about the people moving though it. Though if I had to pick one place it would be the old bank where DASFA used to meet. I met my best friend, Rose Beetem, there one March evening in 1999. Wow, to thing that it has been four and a half years since then.

Second choice would be the old school building where I spent so much time reading. Well since this is my imagination that this snow glob like thing exists in I think I can go for levels of detail that would be unavailable in real world objects. So I would want the window open and maybe a little figure of me reading in the little storage room on the 3rd floor.

Third would be my family's old home where I lived for 19 years. Lots of memories around that place, especially in the woods and garden.

A DASFA Alternate Party Report

DASFA's Alternate Party was last night and it was rather quiet. A person might think from how difficult it has been to get people to host these parties that they would be out of control bashes, but this one has apparently was reprehensive of the last few months with only six DASFA members attending. This was despite my last minute lobbying to get people to attend.

The subject of the lack of energy at DASFA parties was, of course, a topic of discussion. Dana Cain was mention as having been a big reason for the group being more vibrant in the past. Even if she didn't initiate all the parties herself she served as a sort of spark plug that would light off other club members doing things. The conclusion as always is a need for people who want to do things rather than willing to sit back and let things slide.

We had Paul Domes, who I gave the wrong time to, myself, Bruce Miller, and Sandy Diersing. Plus our hosts John and Tammy Fiala. I got to show off my new necklace and it was fun to socialize. John's dad showed up and talked for a long while with Bruce in the kitchen. Everyone was gone by midnight. There isn't much more to say than that.
