The Fat Lady Has Sung

The future will be, for the most part, better than the past. There will be strife and trouble, but look at how far we have come. For the first time in America voters are approving gay marriage. It looks like the war on drugs might start to come to an end and I was wrong about big money being able to carry the day in elections. It is not all roses and wine, but I am optimistic about the future. One step at a time and we will walk around the world.

And my new book comes in Friday. The rest of the collection fears the day that will result in another cull. Bwahahahah!

51st State?

Puerto Rico had a ballot issue during the election. Apparently 54% voted to change status and then 60% voted for statehood. It seems like a pretty robust result in favor of change on the surface, but looking at the numbers on Wikipedia I find that only 71.8% expressed a preference about status. It seems to me that statehood is a pretty serious step since it is irrevocable under current precedent and I am not sure this justifies it, particularly as the new Governor who was apparently narrowly elected is against statehood. Possibly, since independence full or free association seems unpopular, they should have contest between just leaving things as they are vs. statehood.
