Shifting Plans: Minicon 39

Okay I found the following on the Frontier website, " Codeshare flights with Horizon Air are operated as Frontier JetExpress using 70-seat Bombardier CRJ-700 aircraft." No way am I flying on a Bombardier CR7. So now it looks like my options are:

To keep my earlier flight plans and pay $300 round trip.

Book a flight earlier in the week and pay $170 round trip. E.g. Wednesday to Tuesday.

Wait for a better fare.

Drive

Any other suggestions for getting to Minneapolis/St. Paul?

What's wrong with the Bombardier CR7?

Passengers need ear defenders. They're small, loud, and uncomfortable. They're just one step up from turboprop aircraft.

So - get earplugs! I love small planes. They give you that scrotum-tightening sense of imminent death that's so lacking in modern life these days.

Nobody will ever plan a terrorist attack on a plane like that.

I'm not afraid of terrorists.

Actually I exagerate a bit about how loud they are. I just don't care for flying on small aircraft. I'm not afraid. I've flown a two seat aircraft, I've been in one when its engine died, and I've been flying all my life. I just like my comfort and while it is a realistic option I'd prefer not if I can come up with a better plan.

Off to check Northwest and do lunch.

I tend to feel really sick on smaller planes! I'm with you!

I don't suppose Amtrak can help at all?

I don't suppose Amtrak can help at all?

That answer includes the standard disclaimer for traveling within the Twin Cities: You can't get there from (t)here. Amtrak has only one train through Denver, so he'd have to take the CA Zephyr to Chicago and then the Empire Builder to Mpls. Those trains don't run every day, either.

I dunno. I first read "Bombardier" as "bomber," which immediately brought images of an undecorated plane with benches on the sides, with passengers all dressed in green uniforms. Surely [livejournal.com profile] mishalak wouldn't mind that sort of costume for traveling?

Maybe they could parachute him in. Is the consuite for Minicon still on the top floor?

Amtrak Bombers

I got from downtown to the airport on the bus. I didn't have much trouble, though it was not fast. But I agree with you about Amtrak and I would not use it for anything, save maybe a trip to San Francisco. There is some nice sceanery to the west of here and it might be nice to take a train once. Though perhaps I will save my train trip for Britain next year.

Well I suppose I could wear green, but only in a good cut. I wouldn't look good in one of these modern nearly shapeless uniforms. Lets see... perhaps Marshal of the Soviet Union field uniform or Kremlin Guard Colonel's uniform. Maybe.

Easy! Book a flight earlier in the week and pay $170 round trip!

Does Minicon still start on Thursday night (even if unofficially)?

Yes

re; "drive" - no. Driving to Minicon sucks, but driving home from Minicon sucks even more.

You mean you can't fly to Minicon via dirigible any more?

[identity profile] davidschroth.livejournal.com 2004-02-26 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
My understanding is that the Foshay Tower still has a mooring mast (I may have the wrong technical term here).

So, if you can find a carrier still providing zeppelin service to Minneapolis, you could travel to Minicon in style....

I like the Foshay Tower. There is an imposing view of downtown Minneapolis from the parked dirigibles.
