books make the futuristic clothing and styles much easier to portray in a believable fashion, pardon the pun. For instance, i read a scifi book entitled "the mind pool" where a military man had a uniform fairly similar to current day uniforms of our navy. BUT, when his body or parts thereof accelerated, the clothing would become harder to shield its occupant from the impact and help protect the body within. He used it to beat somebody down, but it was a kick ass idea.
