Review: Ropewalk by Bridgeport Brewing Co.
My first impression is a yeasty sweetness. The hops are mild in a way that I prefer, a balance of bitter interest to the beer rather than being an overwhelming flavor that lets nothing else through. The head and carbonation is slight adding a nice tingle but not becoming foamy. This is not a fruity beer, though there are hints of fruit in it. Nothing strong enough to be an identifiable note. As I expect an amber ale to be it isn't mild and light like a pure wheat beer or as burnt and coffee like as a dark. Overall I like it and whenever it is on sale I suspect I will be stocking this beer. Quite solidly alcoholic as well, no Samael that will knock a drinker on his heels, but a respectable 5.6% by volume (4.48 by weight). It is not exactly the color I think of as amber (like a dark honey and in the middle of the range of actual pieces of amber), but is a bit darker and more reddish and a bit cloudy. More tasty than it is pretty.
